Prepared for: Pelican Point Outfitters (fictional example) · August 2026 · delivered September 1 · Care Plus
Every update below was installed on a private copy of your site first and tested before anything touched the live one. Two rows are the interesting ones: an update we held back, and one we pushed and then rolled back. An automated plan would have shipped both and told you nothing.
| Component | Version | Staged & tested | Result | Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress core | 6.9.1 → 6.9.2 | Staged, full regression pass | Passed | Aug 4 |
| Payment gateway | 3.8.4 → 3.9.0 | Staged; test transaction taken and refunded | Passed | Aug 6 |
| Booking calendar | 4.2.0 → 4.3.1 | Staged — broke the deposit field on mobile. Reported to the vendor; patch expected 9 Sept. Your site stays on 4.2.0 until then, which is still a supported release. | Held | Aug 6 |
| Theme (child) | 2.1 → 2.2 | Staged, full regression pass | Passed | Aug 11 |
| SEO plugin | 24.6 → 24.7 | Passed staging, but shifted the trip-detail layout in production on a screen size we hadn't tested. Restored from that morning's backup within 20 minutes and re-applied on the 24.7.1 fix. | Rolled back | Aug 13 |
| Image optimizer | 7.0.3 → 7.1.0 | Staged, full regression pass | Passed | Aug 18 |
| Forms plugin | 2.9.6 → 2.9.7 | Staged; all four forms submitted and delivery confirmed | Passed | Aug 25 |
The rollback on Aug 13 cost us about an hour and cost you nothing. If one of our updates breaks your site, fixing it is our job — it does not appear on your invoice.
Updates rarely break the page you look at every day. They break the form that quietly stops sending, which nobody notices for six weeks. So every month we use the site the way a customer does.
| Measure | This month | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Daily backups taken | 31 of 31 | Site files and database, stored off-site — away from the server, so a compromised host can't take the backups with it. |
| Restore tested | Aug 22 | Full restore to a private copy, verified against the live site. Completed in 11 minutes. |
| Real restore used | Aug 13 | The SEO plugin rollback above. This is what the tested restore is for. |
A backup nobody has ever restored is a hope, not a backup. We test one every month and print the date and the result here, whether or not it was needed.
2 hours 15 minutes of the 3 hours your plan includes. We itemize it rather than calling it “unlimited” — where the boundary sits is written down on the Care page, and anything beyond it is quoted at $95/hour and approved by you before we start.
There is no release compatible with the platform version your host is moving to in the spring, so it will eventually have to go. We would swap in a maintained gallery and move the 140 existing images across. Nothing is broken today and nothing is at risk this month — this is a next-quarter job, not an emergency, and we are telling you now so it never becomes one.
About 2 hours — fits inside next month's included timeRenew it and the held update above can go ahead the same week. Let it lapse and the calendar keeps working, but it stops receiving security patches — which turns a maintained plugin into the gallery plugin above, eventually.
Vendor fee, paid directly by you — we don't mark it upThe site, the domain, the hosting account, the content and the backups are yours the whole time — not held on our accounts, not licensed to you, not dependent on anything only we can run. If you ever leave, you get a final full backup and every credential, we remove our access, and there is no exit fee and no charge for the handover. Care is month-to-month with 30 days' notice after any initial term. We would rather earn next month than lock you in.
Every Website Care client gets this report monthly, written by the people who did the work — not exported from a scanner. Questions about yours take a reply, not a meeting.
